Workers' Compensation Information Sources
For All 50 States

A great many people with RSD are either on worker's compensation, applying to get worker's comp. or trying to deal with worker's comp. administrators who seek to deny treatment for RSD, or even the existence of the disorder.

This page is intended as a resource for anyone with worker's comp. issues, whether they have RSD or not. While this is only the first draft of the page, the intent is to provide as much information about worker's comp. rules in each state as possible. To that end, if anyone viewing this page can send use the official information from their state (that includes brochures and other handouts) if it is not represented here, we will put it up on the Web site as soon as we receive it.

    A service provided by the state Supreme Court and the State Law Library, Alalinc offers links to Alabama's appellate court opinions, 11th Circuit Court of Appeals opinions, and U.S. Supreme Court opinions, plus links to resource materials from the Center for Law and Civic Education and filing guidelines and forms from the Alabama Secretary of State's office.

  • Worker's Comp. Division, this site only has phone number, fax, and office information.

    Arizona

    Florida

  • Florida Division of Workers' Compensation, this site appears to be fairly comprehensive.
  • Florida Government Information Locator Service

    Georgia

  • George state Web server, GA has one of the ugliest and hard to read web sites that we've seen. You will want to turn off background graphics before you enter! We were unable to find workers' comp. information on this site. You can, however, write, call, fax or walk in at:

    Hawaii

  • Hawaii's Home Page, contains nothing specific about worker's comp.
  • DLIR, Labor Appeals Board Workers' Compensation Opinions Index, 1994-97, Hawaii's Disability Compensation Division is part of the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. The Hawaii State Bar Association maintains the web pages for "Decisions & Rulings...for the Labor Appeals Board Workers' Compensation Opinions and Occupational Safety & Health Decisions."

    Idaho

  • Idaho Industrial Commission, "The Idaho Industrial Commission was created in 1918 to administer Idaho's workers' compensation laws. It receives its funding from a premium tax paid by insurance companies licensed to sell workers' compensation policies to Idaho employers."

    Illinois

  • The state of Illinois does not have any information from the Industrial Commission on its Web site, however, information on some parts of workers' compensation can be found on other Web sites in Illinois.

  • Workers' Compensation Insurance, and Self-Insurance, The First Stop Business Information Center produced this document.

    Indiana

  • Indiana Official State Web Site, alas no easy-to-find information on worker's comp.
  • Indiana Department of Labor, finding information on workers' compensation proved difficult on this Web site, but it is a start.

    Iowa

  • While Iowa does have a state Web site, that site appears to contain no information on worker's compensation.

    Kansas

  • Kansas Department of Human Resources Workers' Compensation, this site has a wealth of information, including statistics on appeals, downloadable forms and much more.
  • You might also find Commission on Disability Concerns very interesting.

    Kentucky

  • Kentucky Labor Cabinet Department Of Workers Claims, comprehensive site with great information.
  • Kentucky Workers Compensation Guidebook
  • Kentucky Labor Cabinet, This page includes brief profiles of the Division of Special Fund and the Department of Workers Claims.

    Louisiana

  • Louisiana Department Of Labor, Office Of Workers' Compensation, very useful information, including a selection of statistics and charts.

    Maine

  • Unfortunately the State of Maine Web Site does not contain any worker's comp information on its Web site, though you can read the state laws concerning this and other insurance

    Maryland

  • http://www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/mm95_96/execbran/25ind/html/80work.html">State Workers' Compensation Commission, the most helpful information is an organizational chart complete with names, titles and phone numbers of those who work for this commission.

  • There is also Governor's Office for Individuals with Disabilities, which has some useful phone numbers.

    Massachusetts

  • Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents, Part of the Commonwealth's Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the DIA oversees the workers' compensation system in Massachusetts. This site has an impressive collection of materials.
  • Questions and Answers about Workers' Compensation

    Michigan

  • Unfortunately, Michigan's Department of Consumer and Industry Services does not have any workers' compensation information on their Web site except phone numbers that you can call for more information. Call them and tell them to make all their information more easily accessible.

    Minnesota

  • Employee's Guide to Minnesota's Workers' Comp. System, published by the Department of Labor and Industry.
  • Minnesota is one of the few or only states with an email address for worker's comp: Full Text of Workers' Compensation Statues

    Missisippi

  • Unfortunately there is no workers' comp information on the Missisippi State Government Home pages.

    Missouri

  • Missouri Division of Workers' Compensation
  • Labor and Industrial Relations Commission, workers' comp appeals.

    Montana

  • Unfortunately there is no workers' comp information on the Montana Online Official State Web Site

    Nebraska

    There is not much workers' comp information on the Nebraska state Web servers.
  • Nebraska Workers' Compensation Court, has some information for free, but charges fees for other information.
  • Nebraska Department of Labor

    Nevada

  • State Industrial Insurance System, "The State Industrial Insurance System is generally referred to as SIIS. Our primary purpose is to provide workers' compensation insurance. This is specialized insurance purchased by employers to provide medical care, disability compensation benefits, and rehabilitation services for workers who are injured on the job or who contract an occupational disease in the course of their employment."
  • State Of Nevada Department Of Business & Industry. The DIR promotes the health and safety of workers and ensures that "injured employees receive all the benefits to which they are entitled." This site is under construction, but does include email address, mailing address, phone and fax.
  • Office of the Nevada Attorney for Injured Workers, site is under construction, but does include email address, mailing address, phone and fax.

    New Hampshire

  • Unfortunately we weren't able to find any workers' compensation information on the New Hampshire State Web Pages. We did, however, email them asking them to include this information in the future.

    New Jersey

  • New Jersey Department of Labor, here you can find some phone and fax numbers, but the information is generally skimpy and there is no page specifically for workers' compensation.

    New Mexico

  • Workers' Compensation Administration. The WCA administers the Workers' Compensation Act and the New Mexico Occupational Disease Disablement Law. *This site was inaccessible last time we checked; hopefully it will be back up when you try it.

    New York

    North Carolina

    North Carolina simply has the best worker's compensation Web site of any state.
  • COMP.net , The Home Page of the N.C. Industrial Commission, this is quite simply the most comprehensive and amazing workers' compensation site of any state on this list. Almost every bit of information you could want, from forms to print, a complete list of staff email addresses and/or phone numbers, complete text of the workers' compensation act. This site is incredible, and we were even able to search through commission decisions for those that included RSD!
    Quite simply the model which all other states should follow!
  • Workers' Compensation Administrators Directory, Nationwide directory.
  • Comprehensive List of Worker's Comp Web and Gopher Links, incredible.

    North Dakota

  • Unfortunately North Dakota's Web Site does not contain workers' compensation information.

    Ohio

  • Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. Ohio clearly went to some effort with this Web site.

    Oklahoma

  • Workers'Compensation Court, but not a whole lot of information.

    Oregon

  • Oregon Workers' Compensation Division. This is also an impressive site, with all the publications, forms, statistics and information that you might need. This site relies heavily on the use of Adobe Acrobat PDF files to make downloading, reading and printing documents and forms easier.

  • Workers' Compensation Ombudsman's Office

    Pennsylvania

  • Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, very small amount of information.

    Rhode Island

  • Unfortunately the State of Rhode Island Web Site does not contain resources for workers' compensation. Department of Labor, basically all this page has is a phone number.

    South Carolina

  • Unfortunately the South Carolina Home Page does not provide any helpful information about workers' compensation. Please email the governor and let him know how you feel about this. Meanwhile, you can get in touch with the SC Workers Compensation Commission at the following address

    South Dakota

  • South Dakota Division of Labor and Management. "The Division of Labor and Management is responsible for administering the state's labor laws. Staff in the division help settle problems between employers and workers; enforce wage and hour and child labor laws, answer questions about state and federal unemployment laws, and administer the state's worker's compensation system."

    Tennesse

  • Dept. of Labor Workers' Compensation Division. Has frequently asked questions, highlights of the Workers' Compensation Reform Act of 1996, and a list of workers' comp forms. It also seems to be a slow Web site.

  • Workers' Compensation Commission, address and phone number only.
  • Complete Text of the Texas Workers' Compensation Act
  • Texas Workers' Compensation Rate Guide, for employers.
  • Texas Workers' Compensation Insurance Fund, a workers' comp insurance carrier.

    Utah

  • Industrial Commission, Industrial Accidents. "The Industrial Accidents Division monitors and assists in the prompt payment of compensation to injured workers and their return to the work force." This site does not look like it has been updated or really tended to, so be careful.
  • Employee's Guide to Workers' Compensation Revised August 1995
  • Employee's Guide to a Workers' Compensation Hearing, this page is listed as under construction and contains nothing but a very oddball collection of links to sites like the Whitehouse, Dilbert, Yahoo.

    Vermont

  • Vermont Department of Labor and Industry Workers' Compensation Division, has question and answer pages as well as copies of the relevant rules, regulations and laws.

    Virginia

  • Unfortunately, although the State of Virginia Web Site has some pretty pictures, it offers no information about workers' compensation. You can, however, call or write:

    Washington

  • Washington State Department of Labor and Industries Workers' Compensation Information, contains enough information to get you started.
  • Worker's Guide to Industrial Insurance contains much useful information
  • Handy Guide to Workers' Compensation
  • State of Washington Board of Insurance Appeals, information and assistance in filing workers' compensation appeals.

    West Virginia

  • West Virginia Bureau of Employment Programs. They list their workers' compensation information page as being under construction. We'll check back and update as necessary.

    Wisconsin

  • Wisconsin Workers' Compensation Web Site. This site contains full-text copies of the applicable laws and administrative rules, and many documents for both workers and employers, including a information on how to evaluate permanent disability under Wisconsin's workers' comp law. It is not a particularly well organized site, so make sure to follow most of the links.
  • Facts for Injured Workers about Worker's Compensation in Wisconsin
  • Wisconsin's Worker's Compensation Guide. "This Guide is designed to help employes and employers understand the Worker's Compensation system of Wisconsin."
  • How to Evaluate Disability Under Wisconsin's Worker's Compensation Law, complete guide including illustrations depicting range and motion.
  • State Of Wisconsin Labor And Industry Review Commission. "The Labor and Industry Review Commission ("LIRC") is an independent agency of the State of Wisconsin that decides appeals brought by Wisconsin workers and employers in cases involving unemployment insurance, worker's compensation, and equal rights in employment and public accomodations. "

    Wyoming

  • While you can find court rulings on workers' compensation on the State of Wyoming Web Site, you can't find any information about how to file or what you rights are.
